Chandigarh is the capital city of- Punjab and
Haryana.
The name of the city is derived from an ancient temple- Chandi
Mandir, dedicated to the Hindu goddess Chandi. Rock Garden is one of the best and spectacular attractions
in Chandigarh .The Rock garden is as like symbol of creativity and innovation.
It consists of various art objects. The Rock garden is made by large number of
colored stone, tiles and another hard material connected by walled paths. It
contains very artistic theatre.
Rock Garden
When you enter into the most breathtaking arrangement of
rocks, boulders, frames, broken chinaware, metal wires, broken bangles, play
marbles, it is truly a treat to the eyes and this make a classy entrance.
The Rock garden displays different types of statue made from
different discarded waste materials like frames, mudguards,
forks, handle bars, metal wires, play marbles, porcelain, auto parts, broken
bangles etc. and made attractive material e.g. a world of palaces,
soldiers, monkeys, village life, women and temples.This garden is without a single flower, is the venue of the
annual Teej Festival and the entire garden lights up and looking very nice.
Rock garden is located in Sector 1 between the
Capitol Complex and Sukhna Lake and its foundation goes to Nek Chand in 1957,
who was the then Road Inspector in the Engineering Department of Chandigarh
Capital Project.The Garden has 14 different chambers included a
musician’s chamber and the main court (Darbar), looking very natural.

Sukhna Lake
Sukhna Lake is an inseparable part of the city of
Chandigarh. Le Corbusier had foreseen that it would be drawn for the 'care of
the body and spirit'. Sukhna has a many things with lawns, a gym, indoor games,
swimming pool and tennis courts and boating, rowing, sailing and kayaking can
be enjoyed throughout the year.
In winter months, Sukhna is a sanctuary for many birds like
the Siberian duck, Storks and Cranes. The Government of India has declared it
as a protected national wetland.In summers, there are streams of men, women and children
from all walks of life offering voluntary service. The most popular is the
Mango Festival held during the monsoons.
Sukhna Lake is a reservoir at the foothills of the
Himalayas, the Shivalik hills. This lake was created in 1958 by damming the
Sukhna Choe, a seasonal stream coming down from the Shivalik Hills.

centre in Sector 17. The twice daily Shatabdi, Jan Shatabdi and Himalayan Queen
connects New Delhi and Chandigarh.
